About this lesson

Reflecting decades of work, Herman students Anna Racicot and Gabrielle Herbertson organized, edited and compiled two books containing hundreds of Herman’s lessons. The books, Earth Journey I and Earth Journey II, are the source of most of the weekly lessons published on this site.
Each of the books contains more than 100 photos of Herman’s paintings, an introduction detailing the history and suggested use of the lessons, and an appendix that contains additional information about the communities practices.
Both books are available for sale through the Earth Journey organization’s online store.
A Herman Rednick Lesson
At dawn I meditated on the concept: Love one another. I turned my gaze to my parents and I sang a song of gratitude and love, and I turned to my relatives and poured out beams of gratitude and love. My state became deep and a great peace descended. Then I felt that wonderful influence come over me like a divine cloak, and I saw the face of St. Francis, and I heard him speak without voice:
Loving people is one part of the divine plan. One must include everything in nature or made by man, your house and all things in it. Although I lived in a cave I was grateful for the rock walls and for the air that came through the entrance. My heart was full of joy for every animal and bird. I was grateful for the old blanket that covered me and for the solitude that gave me the time to commune with my Lord.
