Doing "The Work"

EATING BECOMES A MEDITATION WHEN YOU INVITE THE CHRIST

I am having a meal with the Christ. He is sitting at the table. My food is blessed. The food is sacred. I am in silent communion with his sacred presence. He looks into my eyes and we are one spirit. He blesses my cup of water. It becomes a cup of light. My heart glows with holy fire.

Mantra:
I live in the Christ presence.

FOR LOVE – A Mantra In Action

Choose someone you do not like–your parent, brother, or friend.

  1. Visualize this person and say, “I love you. No longer do I resent you. The Christ flowing through my heart enfolds you. I love you.”
  2. You may have a reaction. You may find reasons why you should not love that person. Your stomach may tighten and you may feel anger. This is the time to meet your blocks. Keep repeating this exercise for a half hour.
  3. Visualize the Christ or the Master and realize your unity. I love you. No longer do I resent you.

    Mantra:
The Christ flowing through my heart enfolds you. I love you.

GRATITUDE

Gratitude is the song of the heart. With every grateful feeling there arises a golden offering to the spiritual presence. Through gratitude one integrates with people and with objects. The whole home takes on a glow because of this spirit. It is the secret of dissolving karma, for one makes best use of every condition and situation.

Let us be continuously grateful for every person we see or think about. We are grateful for the sunlight or the healing night, for our magnetic breath, for all colors and all sounds. Thus through this little golden key we shall open the gate to the temple door.

Mantra:
Gratitude fills me with golden light.
A touch of gratitude transforms.
Gratitude brings light and pure joy.
Gratitude sings through me.

GRATITUDE FOR ALL THINGS

At dawn I meditated on the concept: Love one another. I turned my gaze to my parents and I sang a song of gratitude and love, and I turned to my relatives and poured out beams of gratitude and love. My state became deep and a great peace descended.

Then I felt that wonderful influence come over me like a divine cloak, and I saw the face of St. Francis, and I heard him speak without voice:

“Loving people is one part of the divine plan. One must include everything in nature or made by man, your house and all things in it. Although I lived in a cave I was grateful for the rock walls and for the air that came through the entrance. My heart was full of joy for every animal and bird. I was grateful for the old blanket that covered me and for the solitude that gave me the time to commune with my Lord.”

Mantra:
I see God in every person.

The Work

Herman described the process of putting his teachings into practice as "The work." This section contains some of his lessons that describe conceptual concepts as well as actual practices that supported that work. Love everyone -- how on earth can you do that? How do I connect with the Christ and the angelic host? Methods of healing. Dealing with the difficulties of everyday life. These issues and more are touched on here.

HERMAN REDNICK PRACTICES FOR THE PATH OF LOVE

Herman Rednick Practices.

One central issue that many students of Herman faced was how to fulfill the fundamental Christ instruction: Love one Another.  Often a student would come to Herman for guidance on how to resolve a problem they were experiencing for a family member, parent or friend.  “Send the a beam of love” he would reply.  “But I’m doing that” most students would reply.  To which he always responded: “Love more.”  How exactly do we do that?

Herman fundamental practices described by the editors in the introductions of the Earth Journey Books.

Lessons that describe some basic concepts and practices that Herman taught.

100 Christ-centered lessons

In 2002, Robert Van Arsdale collected 100 of Herman’s Christ-focused lessons and self-published them in a booklet titled “The Cosmic Christ.” The content is available here.

Introduction to the collection – The Editorial Notes and Preface to the collection.

The Lessons Chronologically arranged.

Poems and Music

Herman described many of his experiences on the spiritual path, both worldly and other worldly, in poetry.   The poems, his words, and other writings inspired songs written by a handful of his musically talented students.

Poetry: A collection of his poetry was published in the book “Hidden Door to Reality.” These are a few selected from that book.
Songs:
Meditation sessions with Herman began and/or ended with music written and sung by class members. You can listen to a few here.

HERMAN REDNICK LESSONS

About these Lessons
There is a group in northern New Mexico that meets weekly. One or two of Herman’s lessons are read. These become the focus of the week’s meditations. As it has been since the very beginning of Herman’s teachings, those gathered read aloud reflections on their meditations, contributing and expanding our understanding of the teachings

Lesssons – A chronological listing of the weekly lessons with links to the lessons themselves.
Titles – An alphabetical listing of the titles of the lessons, with links.
Mantras – An alphabetical listing of the mantras of the lessons, with links.
First Lines – An alphabetic listing of the first line of each lesson, with links.
