Doing "The Work"

PREPARATION FOR THE SPIRITUAL STATE

How shall I prepare myself for that state when I shall be touched by the Masters of Wisdom?
I will keep to the diet* for it purifies the body so that it will not resist the spiritual vibration. I will meditate twice a day at the same hour; thus will I keep my appoint- ment with the spiritual teachers. I shall love every person I meet because I know he has a soul that is working through a personality. And I shall use every hour as an opportunity to move toward the temple.

Time is spirit and I shall make every hour a golden experience. Thus will I intensify my life and use all my faculties to move closer to the spiritual consciousness. This will make my life full and fruitful, and I shall accomplish the purpose for which I came into form.

Mantra:
Every hour is spiritual substance. I shall use it to transmute my nature.

SERVICE

A disciple said, “At last I am helping many people. I go to see a poor family twice a week. I do get tired. No matter what I do for them, they are not grateful. I write letters for them, but they are always complaining. I feel like quitting.”

I said, “This is not true service. Your movements are mechanical, and giving without love is not service. The people are bringing up blocks in your nature that you must handle on the spiritual path. They are helping you more than you help them.”

Mantra:
When I give give without love I am not serving.

SPIRITUAL WILL

Your spiritual will can make the statement, “I will walk the path of the Christ.” The will of the ego has other ideas. Its lack of discipline and desire for indulgence is in opposition to the spirit. We cannot accomplish our purpose without will. Set your discipline. Make your times of medita- tion at definite hours, do your retrospective writing,* and use the mantra all day. Do not let your ego interfere with your spiritual will which is in complete dedication to the plan of God. Every hour is a creative part of the plan and purpose.

While you are walking the path, you are serving, touching those who are receptive. When you cannot talk to them, you can touch them with a thought. You will recognize a receptive person.
Only when you give yourself completely to the Lords of Light, do you break the hypnotic hold of maya. When you cross the rainbow bridge, what will you take with you? You will take only the light and substance within your being.

Mantra:
The will of God flows through me.
I will walk in faith and light.

START THE FLOW

My home and family feel empty. The light that lived there is no more. My friends make me unhappy and the conditions in the world make me sad.

Break through this curtain of sadness. It is a wall be- fore you and you do not have live in this reality. Love some- one, any person–or animal. Let it pour out of your heart and enfold someone. Thus you will start the flow.

Mantra: I love and I break through the veil.*

The Work

Herman described the process of putting his teachings into practice as "The work." This section contains some of his lessons that describe conceptual concepts as well as actual practices that supported that work. Love everyone -- how on earth can you do that? How do I connect with the Christ and the angelic host? Methods of healing. Dealing with the difficulties of everyday life. These issues and more are touched on here.

HERMAN REDNICK PRACTICES FOR THE PATH OF LOVE

Herman Rednick Practices.

One central issue that many students of Herman faced was how to fulfill the fundamental Christ instruction: Love one Another.  Often a student would come to Herman for guidance on how to resolve a problem they were experiencing for a family member, parent or friend.  “Send the a beam of love” he would reply.  “But I’m doing that” most students would reply.  To which he always responded: “Love more.”  How exactly do we do that?

Herman fundamental practices described by the editors in the introductions of the Earth Journey Books.

100 Christ-centered lessons

In 2002, Robert Van Arsdale collected 100 of Herman’s Christ-focused lessons and self-published them in a booklet titled “The Cosmic Christ.” The content is available here.

Poems and Music

Herman described many of his experiences on the spiritual path, both worldly and other worldly, in poetry.   The poems, his words, and other writings inspired songs written by a handful of his musically talented students.

Poetry: A collection of his poetry was published in the book “Hidden Door to Reality.” These are a few selected from that book.
Songs:
Meditation sessions with Herman began and/or ended with music written and sung by class members. You can listen to a few here.

HERMAN REDNICK LESSONS

About these Lessons
There is a group in northern New Mexico that meets weekly. One or two of Herman’s lessons are read. These become the focus of the week’s meditations. As it has been since the very beginning of Herman’s teachings, those gathered read aloud reflections on their meditations, contributing and expanding our understanding of the teachings

Lesssons – A chronological listing of the weekly lessons with links to the lessons themselves.
Titles – An alphabetical listing of the titles of the lessons, with links.
Mantras – An alphabetical listing of the mantras of the lessons, with links.
First Lines – An alphabetic listing of the first line of each lesson, with links.
