Doing "The Work"

Sunday Papers

Your papers are good. There are many that do not include the lesson. Your papers should be written as a result of your meditation – what has it done for you? To quote one line from the lesson and to elaborate on things that are not part of it shows you are not getting a great deal out of it.

THE KEY TO THE TEMPLE

A disciple said to me, “Everything is going wrong– my business and my home. When I say anything to my beloved, she becomes angry.”

I said, “What do you feel about your beloved?”

He answered, “Of course I love her. Otherwise I would not write such beautiful poems about her.” He said it with resentment.

I said to him, “You are writing about another person. Unless you get over your resentment, how can she be your beloved?”

He answered, “I want to follow the Christ path.”

I said to him, “Another person who hated his wife was telling you to get away from it all and join a monastery. But on our path you face your blocks and the best way is through intense love for your beloved.”

Mantra:
The shortest road to the City of God is through my beloved.

THE LIST–CLEARING THE GARBAGE FROM YOUR BODY AND MIND

We have suggested to you to make a list* of people in the past who created some emotional disturbance. It may be little or intense. This is part of the retrospective writing.** The purpose of this exercise is not to make you feel good about your relations. The intention is to create a flame of love within your heart so that your body and mind will be a clear channel for the Host of Devas.

This exercise must be used twice a day. One does not get through with it until you love the people with a glow like the Christ. This helps the people, but it does most for you. This exercise should be continued throughout your life. It is an eternal spiritual work.

Mantra:
The love of the Christ flows through me to you.

Say “With a beam of love I touch the heart of ____” for each name on the list while visualizing the person’s face. Feel love for each person. See The Name List in the introduction, page xx? for complete instructions.

THE PLAN

The family you were born into and your brothers and sisters are part of a destined plan. Your wife, whether it is the first or fourth, is part of a plan. Your line of work and where you live are part of a design. The friends you meet, good and bad, are also part of the design.

The karmic pattern is intricate and accurate. Some people meet again and again. You take form in different races and the sex alternates. All this is to give a balanced training to the soul.

Mantra:
I am grateful.
Every hour I move toward the Christ.

The Work

Herman described the process of putting his teachings into practice as "The work." This section contains some of his lessons that describe conceptual concepts as well as actual practices that supported that work. Love everyone -- how on earth can you do that? How do I connect with the Christ and the angelic host? Methods of healing. Dealing with the difficulties of everyday life. These issues and more are touched on here.

HERMAN REDNICK PRACTICES FOR THE PATH OF LOVE

Herman Rednick Practices.

One central issue that many students of Herman faced was how to fulfill the fundamental Christ instruction: Love one Another.  Often a student would come to Herman for guidance on how to resolve a problem they were experiencing for a family member, parent or friend.  “Send the a beam of love” he would reply.  “But I’m doing that” most students would reply.  To which he always responded: “Love more.”  How exactly do we do that?

Herman fundamental practices described by the editors in the introductions of the Earth Journey Books.

Lessons that describe some basic concepts and practices that Herman taught.

100 Christ-centered lessons

In 2002, Robert Van Arsdale collected 100 of Herman’s Christ-focused lessons and self-published them in a booklet titled “The Cosmic Christ.” The content is available here.

Poems and Music

Herman described many of his experiences on the spiritual path, both worldly and other worldly, in poetry.   The poems, his words, and other writings inspired songs written by a handful of his musically talented students.

Poetry: A collection of his poetry was published in the book “Hidden Door to Reality.” These are a few selected from that book.
Songs:
Meditation sessions with Herman began and/or ended with music written and sung by class members. You can listen to a few here.

HERMAN REDNICK LESSONS

About these Lessons
There is a group in northern New Mexico that meets weekly. One or two of Herman’s lessons are read. These become the focus of the week’s meditations. As it has been since the very beginning of Herman’s teachings, those gathered read aloud reflections on their meditations, contributing and expanding our understanding of the teachings

Lesssons – A chronological listing of the weekly lessons with links to the lessons themselves.
Titles – An alphabetical listing of the titles of the lessons, with links.
Mantras – An alphabetical listing of the mantras of the lessons, with links.
First Lines – An alphabetic listing of the first line of each lesson, with links.
